All Right!

... And there was sing-ing, and there was danc-ing. And the Russian Vodka was alright! (All Right!!)

Just finished the last of the (3, but really 4) weddings. And there was a White Russian involved (Sat down, listened to some music, had my drink... ;) ). Hooray for open bars, and for actually staying for the party *after* the wedding.

Now if only I could keep my hair from frizzing on rainy days.

Oh, or wait. The beef with the Catholic wedding service, today:

What the heck is up with self-important priests?? And smug altar boys, and music directors who think they're holier-than-thou (which, ya know, since I'm not a church-goer probably has some substance, but still..). Most churches, the bride is all-important at the wedding, and everything is done to make her happy and less stressed. Which makes sense, yes? But at this church, the priest won't let the musicians practice the ceremony with the bridal procession, refuses to let the bride have two songs for her procession (she wanted one for her procession and one for when she comes in), and doesn't want songs played for the mothers of the bride and groom. So the music got practised, and then two days later we had to change everything to suit HIM. And also, he walks in and leaves in front of the procession. Who does that??

And then the music director. Very subtle patronizing. Nothing to really call her out on, but I got the feeling she thought I was still in high school and was treating me as such.

So enough with the ranting. HBP is here, and I am next in line to read it. Apparently there is no ANGSTY SHOUTING IN CAPS!!! This makes me very, very happy.

And YAY! for new Naruto ending. Downloaded an episode when I found out (which actually didn't take long as there is still high speed at home). Also trying to download Fruits Basket, but as it is all 26 episodes at once, this is taking considerably longer. Luckily this computer doesn't have much on it. Yet. I am fixing this.

And of course, no pictures, no tape, and generally no school work at all was done in the last two weeks. Did we ever expect this? I must admit, I see something like a pattern.

I did, however, clean out piles and piles of naked-people drawings out of my room. I now have three stacks instead of 3-ish stacks and 12-ish rolls, and sort-of a floor. And I have charcoal all over everything (evil stuff).

Long entry. My work here is done. Well, ok, I could add more, but... no.

Ok... beware of HBP spoilers in the comments. Way to go, Imo ;)

V & Ts

That priest has a direct line to God, donchaknow? Of COURSE the wedding was all about him....... Oh yeah... and his good buddy J.C. of course.

Hooray for Maltese weddings, almond cookies, dancing, live bands that rock, open bars, White Russians, and V & T's. Downside: crazy-big centrepieces on plant-growth-hormone.

HBP opinion: Way too much fanfare for a very overrated event. Did a new era begin Friday night midnight? No. A celebration of a book publisher's wildest fantasy come true, more like.

After all that HP fanfiction, I find all the characters irritating, in greater and lesser amounts. I can't stand any of the main ones in particular, which may have lessened my enjoyment of the book somewhat. Plus side: No more angsting of hormonally-challenged teens in large block capital letters. This installment was quite tame compared to the last one. Hardly anyone freaked out at all, even when they should have (more on this in a sec), right until the very end. The end more than made up for it with enough soppiness to turn the back cover to paper-mache mush. Ugh.

Fanfiction, you've ruined me. Harry-the-hero's a prat, Dumbledore-the-enigmatic is a power-hoarder of dicey morals, Ron&Hermione-the-loyal-sidekicks-slash-comic-relief make me gag, and Draco-the-misunderstood-and-not-really-that-evil-at-all is just not evil enough to be any fun. I could go on, but what's the point. I'll just leave a final point that I found most disturbing in the whole book: Harry using a spell he doesn't have a clue about on Draco, which ends up slashing his chest open and nearly killing him, bleeding stopped courtesy of Snape.

Okay: for 16-year-old Harry nearly killing his classmate with this piece of stupidity, there is a serious LACK of freaking out going on. Harry isn't freaked out that he nearly killed Draco, McGonagall and Dumbledore & co. don't expell him, or even make many waves about it, and we don't get Draco's thoughts on nearly being killed at ALL. Seriously disturbing. Harry-the-serial-killer? JKR just picks up the narrative and trundles along, business as usual.

Does anyone else find this creepy? It really brought out the sarcastic in this rabbit. That and her godawful cheesy melodramatic dialogue, courtesy of every adult over the age of 17.
